Australian citizens travelling on a valid Australian passport do not need a visa or NZeTA before travelling to New Zealand.

Visa-Waiver Countries

If you are travelling on a passport from a New Zealand visa-waiver country or territory, you generally do not need a Visitor Visa for a short stay, but you must obtain an NZeTA before travelling. Visa-waiver visitors can generally stay for up to three months (six months for UK citizens).

Countries Requiring a Visitor Visa

If your passport is not from a visa-waiver country, you will generally need to apply for a Visitor Visa before travelling. This visa can be used to attend a conference, provided your activities comply with the conditions of the visa.

You may be asked to provide evidence including:

• A valid passport (generally valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from New Zealand)
• Conference registration confirmation or an invitation letter
• Evidence of sufficient funds for your stay
• Evidence of onward or return travel
